STO signs with GE Healthcare to develop healthcare institute

State Trading Organisation (STO) has signed with GE Healthcare to develop the first ever healthcare institute in Maldives. The agreement was signed by Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of STO Mohamed Mihad and Head Education Solutions and Customer Engagement Africa, South Asia and ASEAN of GE Healthcare Marut Setia.
Speaking to media, Senior General Manager Fathimath Aashan noted the efforts of STO to train local pharmacists, adding scholarships will be opened upon the establishment of the healthcare institute aimed to build the human resource in the health sector. Moreover, Fathimath Aashan highlighted STO will sponsor all the students taking part in the first training programme, X-ray technician course.
Meanwhile, Marut Setia lauded the rapid development of healthcare sector of Maldives within the past couple of years. Marut Setia highlighted students will be given practical classes as much as theory classes, noting the latest facilities will be made available in the institute.
After the establishment of the first phase of the healthcare institution, X-ray technicians will be trained along with programmes to familiarise staff to the latest equipment.
The US-based GE Healthcare, which operates as a subsidiary of General Electric, was incorporated in 1994 and operates in more than 100 countries.
