Opposition will welcome foreigners to govern Maldives: Parliament Speaker

Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh has stated if the opposition coalition comes to power there is a possibility of a foreigner governing Maldives.

Addressing the ceremony held at Fuvahmulah City to mark the completion of several projects initiated by the government, Parliament Speaker Maseeh noted the opposition coalition led by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has pledged to establish a parliamentary system in Maldives. The parliament speaker further highlighted the negative impacts on Maldives if a parliamentary system is adapted, adding it will pave way for foreigners to govern Maldives.

Continuing on, Maseeh expressed the success of the current administration, noting the youth have accepted President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his development agenda. During the ceremony, Maseeh highlighted the development implemented in all sectors, inclusive of all islands, and urged the citizens to re-elect the president to a second term in office.
