President sends a condolence message to Philippines

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of condolence to the President of Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte, following the devastation caused by Typhoon Mangkhut in Northern Philippines, resulting in loss of lives and widespread destruction to properties and livelihoods.

In the message, President Yameen said it was with utmost sadness that he learned of the deadly Typhoon Mangkhut that hit Northern Philippines causing the loss of lives, injuring many others and causing irrevocable damage to property and infrastructure. As the Philippines grieves a national tragedy, the president extended profound sympathies to the government and people of Philippines, on behalf of the government and people of Maldives.

The president also expressed ardent wishes for continued acceleration and efficiency of the recovery operations underway. On conclusion, the president conveyed sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy.

Typhoon Mangkhut, which tore across the northern tip of the Philippines early on Saturday, killed at least 54 people, many of them due to landslides.
