President states opposition uses defamation to distract citizens from development

President Yameen has stated Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) uses defamation and slander as a ploy to lull the citizens in to a distraction from the absence of basic services. Baseless allegations about people is the only thing the opposition knows how to create, to lull citizens into ignorance of their own fate, President Yameen stated addressing several thousand supporters of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

“For some defamation has become more important than the provision of basic services”, President Yameen said.

Speaking about the previous administration, the president questioned why round-the-clock electricity provision become a reality in Maldives, what happened to midwifery consultations across the country and why we see priests campaigning for the opposition. The president said, in the next five years, majority shares of Male' Water and Sewerage Company would be bought by the government and the price of water would be decreased significantly.

Continuing on, the president said in contrast to the previous administrations, the past five years saw services rendered such as the provision of clean water for almost 50% of the population; sewerage services for 75% of the population. The president also noted that work on the development of 12 airports are being conducted simultaneously. He there are no additional services that an opposition government can provide and urged Maldivians to re-elect him, to step-up the development efforts across the country.

During the ceremony, President Yameen launched his Presidential Manifesto.
