Maldives envisions to compete with power players in trade: Economic Minister

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has stated the vision of the administration is to make Maldives a country that can compete with power players in international trade. The economic minister made the statement at the function held to officially inaugurate the waterfront restaurants at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The economic minister said although members of the opposition criticise developmental projects, they remain silent in the face of figures and statistics that back the transformation of the country. The minister revealed plans to connect the airport and the commercial port, enabling air to sea transfer of cargo and other services.

After the official inauguration, the waterfront restaurants would be open for business, according to MACL. The waterfront restaurants will boast outlets of world-renowned fast food franchises. The first floor of the two-storey structure would be designed as a walkway while the second floor is to accommodate franchise outlets.

Popular fast food brands, including KFC, Pizza Hut, Harvest Market and Costa Coffee, are set to open outlets and would be operated by HMSHost International, which is a highway and airport food-service company, a subsidiary of the Italian company Autogrill S.p.A.
