Final preparations underway for presidential election

Elections Commission of Maldives has sent ballot papers to be used in the presidential election to polling stations across the country.

Speaking to PSM News about preparations for Sunday's polls, member of the Elections Commission Ahmed Akram said preparations are proceeding according to schedule. The commission member said elections officials have been trained are ready for voting day. Akram added while 85 international monitors and observers have been granted permission to observe the presidential election, some of them have already arrived in Maldives.

Akram noted ballot papers are being transferred under maximum security, in the care of Maldives Police Service and elections officials. 472 ballot boxes are to be used in Sunday's presidential polls, where over 260,000 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes.
