MDP introduced secular ideologies to Maldives: Religious Scholars

Prominent religious scholars has stated secular ideologies were introduced to Maldives by the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), adding it is impossible to believe such a secular movement can govern the Maldives according to Islamic principles. The religious scholars made the remarks at a special gathering which was attended by many religious scholars of Maldives.

The religious scholars who attended the gathering expressed most Islamic governments were destroyed by creating small groups and brainwashing the people, events which can now be seen in Maldives. Refuting claims Islam will be upheld even if any leader is in power, religious scholars stated, if that was the case, such countries as Spain, Philippines and Indonesia will be maintained as 100% Islamic governments.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Islamic Affairs Ahmed Ziyad noted the opposition wants to introduce religious freedom in Maldives. In this regard, the Islamic minister mentioned not every leader has the capability and the strong will to uphold Islamic principles.

Moreover, the religious leaders extended their support towards President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, along with running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, assuring no other leader is capable to govern Maldives in accordance with Islamic principles.
