Defence Minister, security forces to assist smooth transition

Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has assured the military personnel of the country will assist in the smooth transition of government.

In this regard, Defence Minister Adam Shareef stated the military forces have worked professionally during the presidential election and will work professionally to ensure the safety and security of the country. The defence minister noted the military forces will always back the people on any issues of concern, highlighting it is mandated to the military forces to protect and maintain a lawfully elected government.

Furthermore, amid rumours the government is seeking to annul the result of the presidential election, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) assured the military forces will respect and maintain the decision made the citizens. The spokesperson of MNDF Captain Ibrahim Azim said Maldivians have decided their future on September 23 and the military forces will maintain the decision.

Moreover, Maldives Police Service has revealed it respects the decision made by the people in the Presidential Election 2018. In this regard, acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz affirmed the police force will respect the decision of the people and assured to maintain the decision of the people.
