Presidential Candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated he does not believe only 96,052 people voted for him in the presidential election.
Answering a question posed by a journalist regarding the audio leaked in social media, President Yameen said it shows the Elections Commission was influenced and expressed he could have achieved more votes in the election. Noting voting is an obligatory right for every human being, the president said he is worried about the allegations raised against Elections Commission.
Moreover, the president highlighted PPM will hold activities to ensure the rights of the citizens and noted he cannot halt such activities. Furthermore, the president expressed the concerns and complaints will be submitted to Elections Commission and said PPM will meet the commission members.
