Opposition coalition aims to nullify Defamation and Defection Law

Opposition coalition has revealed plans to nullify the Anti-Defamation Act and Anti-Defection Act.

Speaking at a press conference held by the opposition coalition, Parliamentarian Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim stated the aforementioned laws have violated the rights of the people and noted it was used as a tool to deliberately violate human rights.

In this regard, Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim said the acts must be nullified to put a stop to violating rights. Furthermore, Waheed noted Supreme Court not reaching a verdict on the 12 disputed seats have put a stop to several important proceedings.

Parliamentarians representing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Jumhooree Party (JP) and Adaalath Party (AP) have revealed plans to amend several laws and reform the political and judicial system.
