Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has stated the amount of incidents reported are relatively less despite the unfavourable weather in Maldives.
Speaking to PSM News, Spokesperson of MNDF Ibrahim Azim said sea accidents reported are low compared to previous times despite the bad weather. In this regard, Ibrahim Azim revealed within the two days no sea accidents were reported to MNDF. With appreciation, Azim noted the number of accidents due to weather are less as the people are more aware and pay attention to the alerts and updates issued by the Maldives Meteorological Service.
Highlighting obeying the rules, regulations and advice of weather experts and security forces are the safest way to transport during this weather, Captain Ibrahim Azim advised to make sure all necessary precautions are taken before embarking on sea travels. In this regard, Captain Azim asked to inform the security forces if any incidents occur assuring the forces are always prepared to face any unfavourable situation.
Fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy showers will be experienced over the country, according to Maldives Meteorological Service. Surface winds will be south-west/westerly, at 8-18 miles per hour in northern-most atolls and 17-27 miles per hour elsewhere. Winds may increase 45-50 miles per hour during showers. The meteorological service expects the seas to be moderate in northern most atolls and generally rough over the rest of the country. Swell surges may be experienced in central and southern atolls during high tide times and winds will be higher than average in all areas.
