ACC requests to halt selling 400 land plots from Hulhumale’ phase II

Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives has requested to halt the sale of 400 land plots from Hulhumale’ Phase II by Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

In a letter sent to Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu following the announcement of the sale of land plots from Hulhumale’ Phase II, ACC said investigations into the complaints submitted to ACC alleges corruption and doubts in the sale of the land plots. For the aforementioned reasons, ACC requested housing ministry to halt the sale temporarily until the investigations are over.

Meanwhile, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has stated the decision made by housing ministry during the transition period is unacceptable. Speaking to media after the meeting held with ACC, former Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam said ACC has expressed land cannot be sold for the price allocated by the housing ministry for the 1,000 square feet land plots.

Housing Minister Muizzu announced the administration has decided to sell 400 land plots of 1,000 square feet, with each square foot costing USD 26.
