Maldives Red Crescent (MRC) has stated the number of people voicing out about mental health has increased in the past couple of years.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, board member of Psycho-socialist Support Unit at MRC Fiunaaz Waheed revealed talking about mental health and raising awareness has increased and it is a good progress. She noted there is a possibility of every individual going through mental illness, adding talking is one of the most important aid to overcome such cases.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of non-communicable disease of Health protection Authority (HPA) Moosa Waseem highlighted the importance of seeking treatment if such a situation comes up. He said one main treatment can be sought from the household itself which is the first step.
World Mental Health Day celebrated on October 10 is a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, which is a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.
