India has decided to deport Maldivian religious scholar Sheikh Adam Shameem after he was stopped in an Indian airport. Sheikh Shameem is being re-routed for security reasons after being denied access to India, according to Maldivian Embassy in India.
Citing the embassy, some Indian news outlets have stated efforts are underway to send back Sheikh Shameem from Trivandrum to Male'. It was reported that Shameem travelled to India with one of his family members for medical treatment.
Previously, Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik was also denied access to India and sent back to Maldives.
