Fenaka Corporation sends generators to five islands

Fenaka Corporation Limited has dispatched generators to five islands in Shaviyani Atoll in efforts to provide 24-hours electricity service to all islands. Feneka Corporation sent generators to Maroshi, Bilehfahi, Narudhoo, Feydhoo and Goidhoo in Shaviyani Atoll.

Generators of 160 kilowatts and 63 kilowatts were sent to Maroshi while a 64 kilowatt generator was sent to Bilehfahi, according to Fenaka Corporation. Moreover, Fenaka Corporation stated a 128 kilowatts generator was sent to Narudhoo, while a 280 kilowatts generator was sent to Feydhoo and a 80 kilowatts generator was sent to Goidhoo.

The generators provided to the islands were sent under the "Preparing Outer Islanders for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED)" project conducted by the government with the assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB). The POSIED project initiated in 2015 was aimed at providing electricity to all islands and to promote renewable energy in Maldives. ADB and the government of Maldives are working together to transform the existing energy grids on the archipelago into a hybrid renewable energy system, as part of the project.

The project includes installing energy management and control systems; energy storage; and improvements in distribution networks, to significantly reduce the need for diesel to generate electricity.
