Information Commissioner's Office has revealed 18 institutions have applied for the Ranvana Awards.
The nominees for the awards include government authorities, independent organisations, council office and private companies, according to Information Commissioner's Office. Meanwhile, the office revealed the awards are conferred in three categories this year, even though previously it was conferred in four categories.
Previously, no government authorities were given the awards. However, one government authority will be receiving the award this year. Furthermore, Information Commissioner's Office noted the government institutions will be ranked in terms of information disburse and receiving during the ceremony.
International Right to Know Day is celebrated every year on September 28. However, due to the presidential election, the celebrations and award ceremony was postponed to October 17.
Ranvana Awards are conferred to motivate organisations to voluntarily disclose as much information as possible, encourage to maintain information in a way that is easily accessible, the extent of information disclosed on websites, availability of up-to-date information on the institutions notice board and maintenance of meeting minutes of that organisation.
