President's Office has refuted rumours that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is seeking to leave the country.
Regarding the rumours, Spokesperson of President's Office Ibrahim Muaz Ali affirmed President Yameen is never going to leave the country, before or after completing his presidential term. In this regard, the spokesperson noted President Yameen is brave and daring, unlike the political detainees who fled the country instead of serving jail sentences.
While President's Office has refuted the rumours that the president is going to flee the country, opposition coalition has filed a case at Maldives Police Service requesting to stop him from leaving the country.
Speaking to media regarding the case filed at Maldives Police Service, Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Hassan Latheef stated the opposition coalition has received information that President Yameen is going to leave the country, adding it must be stopped at any cost to investigate the allegation raised against him. Hassan Latheef said one main reason why the public chose to vote for Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was to investigate and make President Yameen answerable for the allegations.
