Rector of Villa College Dr. Ahmed Anwar has revealed discussions with Department of Higher Education on evaluating the institution to upgrade it to a university.
Addressing a function held to mark the 11th anniversary of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar said on upgrading the institution to a university, PhD programmes would be offered. Noting necessary preparations are already underway, Dr. Anwar described the expansion of the institution into campuses across the atolls as a significant step forward in the education sector.
Addressing the function, Vice Rector of Villa College Dr. Ali Najeeb said although Villa College opened its doors with just one programme and 20 students, it now boasts over 5,000 graduates including the most number of post-graduate graduands from a single institute in Maldives.
Furthermore, at the function, Villa College introduced research grants for faculty members.
The college currently offers 99 programmes and caters to over 3,000 students. There are 6 campuses of Villa College and 14 learning centres across the country.
