Discussions held with political parties on increasing constituencies

Elections Commission of Maldives has discussed with political parties on increasing the constituencies in Male' City.

At a meeting held to discuss introducing two new constituencies for the capital, political parties debated on the issue. The meeting was concluded without a conclusion on the matter. However, the Elections Commission has given until tomorrow to decide on increasing the number of constituencies.

While the parliament consists of 85 constituencies, Male' is represented by 13 parliamentarians. The electoral body had previously sent letters to political parties regarding increasing the number of constituencies. Elections Commission revealed discussions are underway with relevant authorities, adding an announcement will be made soon.

Moreover, on October 1, the commission published a list of the constituencies as part of the preparations for the parliamentary elections.
