Qasim Ibrahim has decided to regain the position of the leader of Jumhooree Party. While Qasim Ibrahim has submitted his application for the position, it was the only application received by the party.
Jumhooree Party opened opportunity to express interest for the post of leader of the party, following the decision made during a council meeting, with 61 members unanimously voting in favour. Jumhooree party revealed a party leader was not appointed during the congress as no members expressed interest for the post. The party leader post was temporarily filled by Deputy Leader Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan.
When the congress of Jumhooree Party was held, Qasim Ibrahim was serving a jail sentence. However, the High Court has now nullified the jail sentence on Qasim issued by Criminal Court.
Jumhooree Party has opened until October 27 to apply for the post.
