Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed reported cases of dengue have increased in comparison to the past five years.
Speaking on a programme aired on PSM News, Senior Public Health Programme Officer of HPA Aminath Aroosha said cases of dengue increased this year due to weather changes, noting most number of cases were reported in September. Aroosha highlighted dengue cases particularly from Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Laamu Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll and the Greater Male' region increased during this period. HPA urged caution following the rise of dengue cases reported.
Meanwhile, Paediatrician at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) Dr. Ahmed Faisal said each day a child gets admitted due to dengue. Dr. Faisal stated while three types of dengue are spread, all three types are reported in Maldives.
Furthermore, HPA advises to clean and clear areas which mosquito may breed, use repellents and lotions as preventive measures. Dengue is endemic in the Maldives, with prevention and control of the illness solely dependent on effective mosquito control measures.
