Kulhudhuffushi Island Council has announced plans to build a five-storey building to increase the revenue generated by the council.
Speaking with PSM News, President of Kulhudhuffushi Island Council Abdul Latheef Hassan said in carrying out the duties mandated under the Decentralisation Act, the council prioritises infrastructural and social development and to reach targets set in these areas, financial sufficiency is vital.
To achieve the goal of financial sufficiency, the five-storey building would be constructed at a prime location in the island, which would guarantee a healthy revenue. Under the plan, a shop, a library, a function hall, a VIP apartment and VIP rooms would be developed in the building.
Scheduled for next year, the project would be conducted in three phases. Spaces in the building would be rented out, as construction work progresses. Revenue from the project would be directed towards infrastructural and social projects carried out in the island.
The Kulhudhuffushi Island Council currently leases 12 buildings and plots to generate income, which is funnelled towards developmental projects.
