Supreme Court takes over case regarding PPM leadership

Supreme Court has taken over the case filed at the Civil Court regarding the handover of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

All case documents connected to the case filed at the Civil Court by a common PPM member was taken to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has also instructed Civil Court to halt all processes related to the case as well. In the case filed at the Civil Court, a request was made to hand over the authority of the party to the lawfully elected President of PPM Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, as the current leadership is invalid.

Earlier, Civil Court had decided to hand over PPM to incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom., following the expulsion of Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Parliamentarian Faris Maumoon from the party, in connection with differences that stemmed from efforts to take a no-confidence motion against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed.
