Parliamentarians Abdulla, Sinan, Ilham and Saudulla retain parliament seats

Supreme Court has declared Parliamentarian Abdulla Mohamed, Abdulla Sinan, Ilham Ahmed and Saudulla Hilmy have not lost their seats at parliament.

Following the mass defection of a number of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) parliamentarians to the opposition coalition, Elections Commission announced those parliamentarians have lost their parliament seats; a decision the commission based on a July 2017 Supreme Court verdict regarding defection. The decision by the Elections Commission created disputes regarding the validity of the seats of 12 parliamentarians, which had been filed as separate cases, against the electoral body.

After hearing the cases, Supreme Court had earlier declared Parliamentarians, Mohamed Ameeth, Abdul Latheef Mohamed, Saud Hussain and Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim have not lost their seats at parliament.

Of the 12 Parliamentarians, Mohamed Abdulla, Mohamed Musthafa, Mohamed Hussain Shahudhee and Ali Shah are currently awaiting Supreme Court verdicts, to determine the validity of their membership in the parliament.
