Supreme Court to hold a procedural hearing in Nazim’s case

Supreme Court of Maldives has decided to hold a procedural hearing to review its decision to reject the appeal filed by former Defence Minister Colonel (Retd.) Mohamed Nazim. The decision came in the wake of another appeal filed by the defendant, asking the Supreme Court to review the decision to reject the appeal.

The High Court upheld the Criminal Court sentence of 11 years of imprisonment, after the court found him guilty for the possession of a fire. However, an appeal filed at the Supreme Court in 2016, was rejected. A procedural hearing is being held in absentia, with Nazim in Malaysia to seek medical attention.

Supreme Court has already accepted to review the verdicts passed on former President Mohamed Nasheed, President of Adhaalath Party Shiekh Imran Abdulla and former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim.
