Parliament of Maldives has passed over USD 3.36 million as the budget of Auditor General’s Office for 2019.
The Auditor General’s Office submitted a budget of USD 3.88 million for 2019. However, parliament passed a budget of USD 3,36 million for the institution with 47 parliamentarians unanimously voting in favour. However, the public finance committee of parliament, which deliberated over the budget, noted the amount can be increased depending on the contingencies requested by the Auditor General’s Office.
The USD 3.36 million budget includes over USD 51,000 as salaries and allowances for the auditor general, over USD 2.6 million as salaries and allowances of employees, over USD 100,000 to conduct training programmes and develop human resources, over USD 776,000 as administrative costs and over USD 246,000 million as other costs of the Auditor General’s Office.
The annual budget of Auditor General’s Office is passed separate from the state budget. The Auditor General’s Office submits a budget which would be deliberated by the public finance committee of parliament. The committee will also sermon officials from the Auditor General’s Office during the process.
Parliament passed a budget of USD 3.16 million for the institution for the current year.
