MDP wishes President Yameen to attend swearing-in ceremony

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has revealed hope the outgoing President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Vice President-Elect Faisal Naseem.

Speaking at a press conference held by Inauguration Committee, Chairperson of the committee Hassan Latheef said MDP wishes for the outgoing president to attend the swearing-in ceremony to be held on November 17. Noting the swearing-in ceremony of President Yameen was attended by former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Nasheed in 2013, the main opposition party expressed hope President Yameen will also respect and set the same example.

However, after continued efforts, no comments were made by the spokesperson of the President's Office regarding the matter.

The swearing-in ceremony of president-elect and vice president-elect is scheduled to be held on November 17 at 1700 hours. Over 11,000 people will be invited for the ceremony, according to inauguration committee.
