Election Commission members summoned to police and questioned

Lawyer representing Elections Commission Riffath Abdulla has revealed members of the electoral body were summoned to Maldives Police Service to inquire about the destroying of ballot papers and other documents used in the presidential election.

Speaking outside the police headquarters, Riffath said the police wanted to acquire the procedure followed by the commission. He added the members did not give a statement or were told about an ongoing investigation.

During a press conference, President of Elections Commission Ahmed Shareef told the ballot papers will be destroyed with the assistance of the relevant authorities and assured the procedure would be followed in accordance with the law.
