President-Elect departs to Saudi Arabia

President-Elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah pilgrimage.

The president-elect was accompanied by officials from the opposition coalition including Parliament Speaker Qasim Ibrahim and Vice President of Adaalath Party Ali Zahir and Mohamed Waheed, former Vice Chairperson of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). It was reported they travelled on a private jet arranged by the Saudi government.

During the visit, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will meet with Saudi government officials, according to the Spokesperson for the President-Elect Mariya Ahmed Didi. The president-elect is expected to return to Maldives on Friday.
