Parliamentarian Nasheed ordered to pay USD 150,000 to an Indian citizen

Civil Court of Maldives has ordered Parliamentarian Mohamed Nasheed to pay 150-thousand US dollars to an Indian citizen.

The Indian national, Alaka Singh, filed a case to seek reimbursement from Nasheed for the sale of a cruise vessel named built with funds provided by Singh at a considerably lower price. Nasheed was tasked to facilitate the sale of the vessel for a price of USD 400,000, which was sold for USD 250,000. In the submission, Singh said even though Nasheed agreed to reimburse the loss of USD 150,000, Nasheed has not paid the amount.

The Civil Court ruled it was clear Nasheed agreed to pay the loss to Singh and gave a period of 15 days to pay the amount. However, in a statement, Nasheed had denied the allegations and revealed that he will appeal the ruling.
