First aircraft of Manta Air arrives in Maldives

The first Manta Air aircraft has landed at Velana International Airport (VIA). Latest preparations are now underway to begin commercial operations, revealed Manta Air.

The first aircraft of its fleet flew in from Denmark's Billund Airport. The first Manta Air aircraft brought to Maldives was an ATR 72-600. The aircraft landed at VIA after a low-flying pass. The maiden aircraft, as usual, was given a water salute upon its arrival to VIA.

Chief Executive Officer of Manta Air Mohamed Khaleel stated flights will start operating after full authorisation is granted from the Civil Aviation Authority of Maldives. With the development brought to VIA, the capacity of the aviation sector must also be enhanced, said Mohamed Khaleel.

The operations will initially begin to Kudahuvadhoo Airport and will operate to more destinations after increasing its fleet, according to Universal Enterprises Private Limited which operates Manta Air.

Manta Air, which is the third domestic airline operating in Maldives, has plans to begin seaplane operations before end of the year or early next year.
