USD 211 million allocated for education in the state budget

The government has proposed USD 211 million for education in the State Budget 2019. The funds are to be distributed for a number of new initiatives, according to Ministry of Finance and Treasury.

The initiatives includes the provision of breakfast for every student, which the government forecast would cost USD 3.2 million. The government has also allocated USD 3.2 million to fund the incoming government's pledge to provide free tuition fees for all students, through their undergraduate studies.

USD 323,500 has been set aside to fund the transformation of all schools across the country to environments that are disability-friendly. In addition to this, USD 1.5 million has been allocated to train 60 general doctors and 25 specialist doctors per year.

The new budget has also set aside funds amounting to USD 2.5 million to reinstate the culture of awarding scholarships from colleges of their choice from around the world for students who attain first place in their Higher Secondary School Examinations.
