President establishes Commission to Investigate Murders and Disappeared People

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established Commission to Investigate Murdered Individuals and Persons Disappeared. The commission was established on the first day of President Solih’s term, 17 November 2018, in line with his electoral pledge to initiate the task on the first day of office.

President Solih established the commission under the authority bestowed upon the president on Article 115 of the constitution aiming to investigate the cases that were not given a preferable amount of attention to fully investigate the murdered individuals and disappeared people from January 1, 2012 to November 17, 2018. The Commission also made realising it is a responsibility of the government to disclose all information of such cases to ensure justice.

The Commission includes Husnu Al Suood, Abdulla Munaz, Adam Ibrahim, Fareesha Abdulla and Misbaah Abbas. Meanwhile, the president appointed lawyer Husnu Al Suood as the president of the aforementioned commission.

The Commission is granted all rights which are bestowed to an investigative authority.
