Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has called to legitimise Child Rights Bill and Juvenile Justice Bill.
In a statement issued commemorating World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, HRCM called to legitimise the drafted bills as soon as possible to further ensure rights of children and stop violence against children. Noting a legal structure must be established to enhance the child shelters and centres in Maldives, HRCM said a system to provide mental care also needs to be established. Moreover, in the statement, HRCM has asked all relevant authorities and media to work together to further raise awareness and to enhance services related to children.
While World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse is celebrated, Maldives have ensured rights for children under Article 53 of the Constitution.
