Minister of Home Affairs Imran Abdullah has ordered Maldives Police Service to investigate the illegal removal of trees.
It has been brought to the attention of media outlets that trees are being removed and transported from several islands to make nearly tourist resorts greener. It has also been reports a variety of trees and coconut palms are being exported illegally.
In the wake of these events, Minister Imran Abdullah has ordered Maldives Police Service to closely monitor and investigate the illegal removal of trees and the damage to reefs and lagoons. It is a responsibility of every individual to protect the environment, the home minister said in a tweet.
