Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has revealed information regarding sovereign guarantee and loans will be announced in the coming days.
Speaking at the Budget Reviewing Committee, Finance Minister Ameer stated efforts are underway to inquire details about the sovereign guarantees issued for companies and loans attained by the government, adding the information will be publicised once the situation is clear. Noting efforts are currently made to secure foreign grants, the finance minister said it is important to increase the budget of the foreign ministry to achieve these goals.
The Budget Reviewing Committee has proposed and passed 7 amendments to the proposed budget of the new government. The budget will be submitted to the parliament floor next week with the changes, which if passed will increase the proposed budget to over USD 2 billion, which will make it the largest state budget to be passed in Maldives.
The new government proposed a state budget of little less than the USD 2 billion mark.
