Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has appointed Parliamentarian Ahmed Aslam as the Parliamentary Group Leader. In a statement, the main ruling party also announced Parliamentarian Ali Nizar was appointed as the Chief Whip of the Parliamentary Group.
MDP made the appointments as former Parliamentary Group Leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was elected as the President of Maldives and former Chief Whip Mariya Ahmed Didi was appointed as the Minister of Defence.
The MDP Parliamentary Group currently consists of 18 parliamentarians and the appointments were made without a vote as no parliamentarian was nominated for the posts in the duration given.
