The Budget Reviewing Committee has approved a state budget of USD 2 billion after making amendments to the initial proposal. The committee approved the budget unanimously, while the committee also approved all the amendments brought to the proposed budget.
The initial budget was proposed to the parliament before Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was sworn in as the president. However, former Minister of Finance Ahmed Munawar revealed the budget was compiled with the assistance and advice of the new administration.
After two weeks of extensive reviewing, the budget committee enhanced the budget as asked by government offices and state enterprises. With the approval of the budget committee, the budget will be submitted to the parliament floor next week with the changes, which if passed will make it the largest state budget to be passed in Maldives.
The new government initially proposed a state budget of little less than the USD 2 billion mark.
