Environment Minister calls to prioritise protecting the natural environment

Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has called to make environmental protection a priority of every individual as the natural beauty and environment is one main reason why tourists choose Maldives a travel destination.

Addressing a programme held at Dhiffushi in Kaafu Atoll to celebrate the International Coastal Clean-up Day, Environment Minister Hussain Rasheed said the residents of the island must always work to protect the environment and the habitat. The minister revealed it is important to stop dumping waste irresponsibly in the efforts to protecting the environment.

Noting tourism sector supports a major part of the economy, Minister Hussain Rasheed said tourists will only arrive in Maldives if the natural beauty is protected and preserved. Furthermore, the minister also spoke on the importance that should be given to fisheries and agriculture as well.
