Ministry of Economic Development has opened opportunity for the public to express opinion about 24-hour business operations. While the 24-hour trading policy has been published on the website of economic ministry, the establishments which can be granted 24-hour trading permission was also announced.
Permission will be granted to business establishments in cities retailing daily goods and café and restaurants which do not permit smoking, according to the 24-hour trading policy. In addition, according to the policy, no franchises will be permitted to run 24-hours.
Moreover, the policy permits pharmacies and patrol sheds in inhabited islands to operate 24-hours. The new policy of the ministry also permits the operation of businesses in airports as well. Furthermore, the policy has outlined how a permission can be withdrawn.
While the ministry has opened for public opinion, the submissions will be accepted until November 29. Granting businesses 24-hour operation permit is an electoral pledge of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
