Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Shidhatha Shareef has stated victims of violence must be given proper care and support in all stages.
Speaking at the ceremony held to officially kick off the activities to mark the 16 days of activism, Gender Minister Shidhatha noted all victims need the support of family, friends and the whole society.
Noting the number of cases reported to the ministry has increased, the gender minister highlighted in October alone 29 cases of domestic violence was reported, out of which 25 cases were related to women. In this regard, the minister expressed concern over the increased amount of victims of violence in the society.
To celebrate the 16 days of activism this year, the gender ministry has planned several activities. In this regard, a special social media campaign and awareness sessions are organised.
