Ministry of Environment has commenced National Forum on Environment for island councillors.
It is the first forum of the environment awareness programme scheduled to be conducted within the first 30 days of the new administration. The forum will confer information to councillors on how to protect the environment and on how to aware the public on environment related issues.
Speaking while inaugurating the forum, Environment Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan noted the importance of the forum to create awareness on environment, adding councillors need to maximise and prioritise the utilisation of the resources available in the islands for waste management.
More editions of the forum are scheduled to be held for cabinet ministers, members of parliament, and councillors before the 30 day timeline, according to the environment ministry.
