Heavy, continuous rain since 1000 hrs today have flooded several areas in Male’ City.
Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a yellow alert between Kaafu and Alifu atoll, while a white alert has been issued between Haa Alifu and Alifu atoll.
According to Maldives Meteorological Service, 44 millimeters of rain has been recorded in Male’ City between 1000 and 1300 hrs today, while 29 millimeters of rain has been recorded in Hulhule’ within the same timeframe.
Fire and Rescue Services of Maldives National Defence Force have started pumping flood waters from across the city.
Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms over the country, with torrential rain and thunderstorms in Kaafu and Alifu atoll, during the next 24 hours as well.
Surface winds are expected to vary between north-east / easterly at 05 – 15 miles per hour in central atolls and 3 - 13 miles per hour elsewhere. Winds are expected to gust 30 miles per hour during showers. Seas are expected to be slight becoming moderate during showers.
