Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced 775 tonnes of waste were collected during the first day of the national cleaning campaign initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Speaking on a prograame aired on PSM News, Waste Collection Manager of WAMCO Mohamed Shaan said 20 tonnes out of the 775 tonnes collected from Male', Villimale' and Hulhumale' were plastic waste. He expressed the amount of waste collected on the first day proves the success of the programme, with over 2,500 people participating in the national event.
On Saturday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the National Cleaning Exercise, as pledged in his First 100 Days Goals. Vice President Faisal Naseem, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, senior delegates of the government, and those representing non-governmental organisations and the private sector were also among the high number of participants at the event.
