President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has noted one of the most important goals of the administration is to recover the lost public funds due to corruption.
In his address published on the occasion of this year's International Anti-Corruption Day, President Solih stated Maldives will soon experience good governance and strengthened state institutions. Continuing on, President Solih reflected on his electoral pledge of eradicating corruption from the country. He said resolving the loss of public assets and funds due to corruption remains one of the highest priorities of the administration.
In his address, President Solih said Maldives will not be able to reach the level of advancement desired as a country, unless the corruption epidemic is erased from the country. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring fair and equal delivery of public services from state institutes, in the effort to eliminate corruption within the government.
Continuing in this regard, President Solih said one of the most important steps towards eliminating corruption from the country is to win the public trust for state institutions. The president also underscored the significance of ensuring the sincerity, accountability and transparency of the institutions. He especially noted that all civil servants, senior executives, and especially cabinet ministers must be corruption-free and accountable to the people.
Highlighting the low score on the recent Corruption Perception Index of Maldives, President Solih called upon everyone to aim towards becoming corruption-free. He noted it will attract more foreign investors to the country. The president further urged all state institutions to fully cooperate and support the Anti-Corruption Commission in the efforts to build a corruption-free society. He also reassured of the full support and cooperation of the administration to the cause.
