Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated India is an important development partner of Maldives, revealing major efforts will be undertaken by the current administration to enhance relations between the two countries.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the second round of consular talks between India and Maldives, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid said enhancing relations with neighbouring countries is a major component in the foreign policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Minister Shahid expressed Maldives will put forth dialogue to set aside the differences.
Furthermore, the minister underlined during the consular talks, areas to further enhance relations will be identified and discussed. In addition, he added challenges faced for Indians living in Maldives will be also discussed to find solutions.
Highlighting on the official visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to India on December 17, the foreign minister noted the president will prioritise discussions regarding easier arrangements for visa.
The delegation of India attending the second round of Maldives India Consular Talks is headed by the Joint Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs of India Amit Narang. The first round of consular talks was held in India on October 24.
