Maldives have included a new vaccine in the National Immunisation Schedule. The new vaccine included is an additional dose of DTP vaccine.
DPT is a class of combination vaccines against three infectious diseases; diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus. Although DTP vaccine was previously given to babies of 2-4 months, it was stopped as the vaccine influence reduces as the child grows. The dose is once more included in the National Immunisation Schedule, upon advice of World Health Organisation (WHO), according to Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the ceremony held to introduce the DTP booster vaccine, Minister of State for Health Mohamed Zuhair said a stronger version of the vaccine is introduced realising its importance.
