The governments of Maldives and India have exchanged an agreement and memorandum of understandings, as part of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's state visit to India.
The four key documents were exchanged following high-level discussions held at Hyderabad House between President Solih and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The four key documents exchanged were Agreement on the Facilitation of Visa Arrangements, Memorandum of Understanding on Cultural Cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding for establishing Mutual Cooperation to Improve the Ecosystem for Agribusiness and Joint Declaration of Intent on Cooperation in the field of Information, and Communications Technology and Electronics.
Moreover, both countries agreed to work together to create institutional linkages and to establish a framework of cooperation in the health sector, Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters, Investment promotion, Human Resource Development and Tourism.
After the exchange of the documents, President Solih and Prime Minister Modi gave a joint press statement where both leaders reiterated the importance of an effective multilateral system as a key factor in tackling global challenges. The leaders also reviewed efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment ties between the two countries agreeing to promote closer economic cooperation in sectors such as fisheries development, tourism, transportation, connectivity, health, education, information technology, new and renewable energy and communications.
The two leaders underscored the need for strengthening and reform of multilateral financial institutions and enhancing the voice and participation of developing countries in international economic decision-making during the joint statement.
