UK and Maldives to further enhance collaboration in areas of mutual benefit

The UK and Maldives have held discussions to further enhance collaboration in areas that are of mutual benefit to both countries; especially in the areas of tourism and education. The discussions were held during the courtesy call paid by UK Ambassador to Maldives James Dauris on Vice President Faisal Naseem at the President's Office.

During the call, the vice president welcomed the ambassador and expressed good wishes from the government and the people of Maldives to the government and the people of the UK. Expressing gratitude for the continuous support to the Maldives, Vice President Faisal Naseem shed light on the existing strong relations between the two countries.

Further, the vice president welcomed the decision to open a UK resident mission in Male' and thanked the UK for the mobile student visa facilitation service it has been operating in Male' for the last 6 years. Ambassador Dauris welcomed the decision of the government of Maldives to re-join the Commonwealth.

During the call, the UK Ambassador congratulated Vice President Naseem on his assumption of office. He also commended the administration for its ambitious first 100-day programme and the start of its active implementation seen in the country during the short time since assuming office.

The vice president and the ambassador also discussed ways to further strengthen the close ties between the Maldives and the UK.
