Government to develop 3 tertiary hospitals, establish water and sewerage system in 20 islands

Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer has announced projects to establish water and sewerage systems in 20 islands will commence before the end of next February. Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer made the announcement in an exclusive interview to PSM News in New Delhi, during his current visit to India accompanying President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During the interview, Minister Ameer revealed the administration will develop three tertiary hospitals and change the business port in Male' to Thilafushi. Commenting on the USD 1.4 billion credit facility provided by the Indian government, the finance minister said USD 800 million from the credit facility will be utilised to conduct development projects. In this regard, the minister noted the government prioritises projects such as establishing water and sewerage facilities, developing tertiary hospitals, harbours and ports.

Moreover, the minister stated the government attaches the most importance to commencing the establishment of water and sewerage facilities in 20 islands by February. He also revealed plans of the government to develop three additional tertiary hospitals across the country, along with the continuation of the development of tertiary hospitals initiated by past administrations.
